Vancouver West Aikikai - Ken Wa Kai

As part of Vancouver West Aikikai, Ken Wa Kai meets regularly to practice the Art of Iaido. Using a katana, Iaito (practice sword) or bokken participants learn solo forms thereby acquiring improved focus, posture and self control.

Two styles of Iaido are practiced at Ken Wa Kai:

Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu is the traditional school which we follow. This style of swordsmanship has been continuously practiced in Japan since the early 1500's.

For grading purposes, the 12 kata of the Zen Nihon Kendo Renmei (All Japan Kendo Federation) are practiced as well. These forms are practiced in the same way throughout the world by practitioners associated with the Zen Nihon Kendo Renmei.

Ken Wa Kai is registered with the Canadian Kendo Federation, and all promotions are granted through the federation.

Our instructor at Ken Wa Kai is Natan Cheifetz, 5th Dan. Natan started his training with Shin Ken Kai in Vancouver. In addition, Natan spent a year training with Ohmi Sensei in Toronto. His most inspiring instructors were Iwata Norikazu Sensei and the late Omori Massao Sensei who both came to
Vancouver several times and shared their inspiring teaching.

Please contact Natan if you are interested in joining or would like further information.
